Variety is as much a part of Charleston as the salt in the air. This is a place where you can surf the beach at sunrise, dine at some of the hippest restaurants in the world and visit relics from the Civil War. The city’s inhabitants are no different. We are dream-seekers, and if there isn’t a job we like, we create it. In the face of a grim job market in which some must resort to flipping burgers to make a living, a few intrepid trailblazers are still managing to do what they love in lieu of minimum wage. From an event-inventing DJ and a film festival creator to the founders of Cannonborough Soda Company, a fitness guru and a missionary, this is just a sampling of the new blood rising up from the pluff mud in Chucktown.
