First Friday of Fashion

It’s nearly impossible to miss the ethereal white dress and old beach cruiser, both carefully adorned with animal bones and skulls, in the window display of vintage and designer boutique JLINSNIDER.
After taking home the award for opening night feature designer at Charleston Fashion week in 2011, Jamie Lin Snider opened a store of her own the same year.
Snider’s shop, at King Street, is a vintage haven and design sanctuary, catering to the wardrobes of all. Walk through the store to the back, where you’ll find a door leading to an intimate courtyard that features local artisans and musicians on the First Friday of every month. The scene is eclectic—expect to see all walks of people bustling around, from vintage junkies, college students and fashionable 20- and 30-somethings.
Everyone should taste First Fridays at JLINSNIDER. From 7 to 11 p.m., all vintage clothing, shoes and accessories are on sale at the free event itself. It’s business in the front and party in the back as you head outside to the courtyard to find yourself surrounded by DJ turntables, live art, a tarot card reader and local vendors, complete with a wine and beer cash bar.
“Her spot is the hub of all the fly kids,” says Josef Myers, a Charleston native and regular attendee at First Friday. “I go to see what and who is relevant in terms of Charleston tastemakers. Plus, Jamie is awesome.”
