Holy City Happiest Happy Hours

Some eclectic choices for your favorite time of the day

BY CHARLES NGUYEN, CAITLIN CUNAGIN AND LAURA HETTRICK

It’s no secret the Holy City has become a mecca for foodies. With what seems like new spots opening every other week, it’s easy to get lost within this city’s food-and-bev frontier. Sometimes you can’t help but think, “Charleston, can’t you pump the brakes?” We know the feeling. For those tired of digging for cuisine’s hidden gems or for those just passing through, this is for you—a checklist of must-eat food specials broken down by occasion. Your days of aimlessly stumbling from one happy hour to the next are over. Even better,  these specials won’t put a dent in your cash flow.

You: Looking to refine your table tennis game?
Hõm: Houses two Killerspin Revolution tables in its back lounge that are coaxing your ping-pong game. After you finish your $10 Hurricane specialty burger stuffed with duck confit, goat cheese, Hõm steak sauce, vanilla onion relish and onion rings, of course.
Happy hour: Monday through Friday, 4 to 7 p.m.

You: It’s 2 a.m. and you’ve had plenty to drink but need some serious chow.
Butcher & Bee: At your service for those late-late-night needs. Try the grilled cheese with pickled okra, candied pecans and homemade pimento cheese.
Late night hours: Thursday through Sunday, 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

You: Debating how you’re going to impress your hot new date this week.
Cypress: Belly up to the bar on Monday for $5 gourmet burgers. Your reputation and taste buds will thank you.
Burger night: Every Monday.

You: Waking up to the spins of last night’s escapade. Next thought: it’s Sunday morning. Next thought: brunch.
AC’s Bar and Grill: Specials rotate every Sunday. The brunch menu has everything you could ask for, but you should try the Breakfast Club—eggs, bacon and cheese between Belgium waffles with a side of maple syrup for dipping.
Brunch: Sundays From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You: Craving gourmet food, but you only have so much cash.
Caviar and Bananas: Try the mini gyro spring rolls for only $5.50 or the trio of dips for just $5 during happy hour. Beer cheese mustard, hummus and roasted French onion dip make this tasty trio a steal.

Happy hour: Tuesday through Friday, 4 to 7 p.m.

So, the next time you have a long day at work and are in dire need of a cold one or a tasty dish, remember, we’ve got you covered. Cheers to that.
