The Hunger Game

1. DRINK: CORPSE REVIVER
Start your scavenging adventure by searching for a drink that could wake the dead, found at one of upper King’s newest additions. The cocktail, created as a hair-of-the-dog hangover cure, is surprisingly sweet and comprised of ingredients made on-site. This old-Hollywood-style eating establishment offers a simplistic menu with breakfast served all day.

2. APPETIZER: “HOOP” CHEDDAR AND BEER FONDUE
How do you make fondue better? Well, you add beer, of course. The sophomore restaurant of Chef Robert Carter, this dish, deemed a “snack” on the menu, is comprised of smoked sausage, crusty bread and pretzels. Need we say more?

3. MAIN COURSE/LIGHTER FARE: MASON JAR SALAD
Don’t let the shabby chic interior of this eatery deter you. Make no mistake, the food is held in high regard. Garnished with pickled radishes and finished with fish sauce vinaigrette, this salad is true to its name and served in a mason jar.  Tucked away in the East Bay neighborhood, you will have to search for an oddly colored door (HINT) to find this salad true to Southern roots.

4. MAIN COURSE: OKONOMIYAKI
Those who say you shouldn’t eat anything you can’t pronounce are about to be schooled.  Even if you aren’t fluent in Japanese, this meal's country of origin, don’t fret. The signature dish of a pop-up turned permanent fixture is described as cabbage pancakes with local vegetables on top. Search for a restaurant name in the Radcliffeborough neighborhood that you’re more than likely to mispronounce.

5. DESSERT: WOOD FIRED S’MORES
After dinner, jump in you car (or cab, depending on how much you enjoyed the cocktails) and venture off the peninsula for a dessert made famous by The Sandlot. For a cheap ($4) sticky and sweet treat of which you’ll certainly want “s’more” find James Island’s newest pizza establishment.

If you’re a fan of mixing food and fun, follow our hunt through downtown’s most notable neighborhoods (and one off-peninsula choice, just to keep you on your toes) to try some of Charleston’s newest restaurants and their most interesting offerings. You can discover each suggestion using the clues below, but if you get too hungry or just impatient, look at the bottom of the page to find the answers. Do give it a try, and no using Google to cheat.

Try this foodie scavenger hunt and may the odds be ever in your (stomach's) favor.
