Feelin' Frizzy?
Get sleek hair during the sticky summer months with these three steps
BY EMILY WILSON
Every year around May, a wave of humidity crashes over the city. You then spend the next several months lamenting over sweaty clothes and counting the days until the weather shows signs of fall. With these helpful tips from two salon experts, your hair can be one less enemy in the battle against humidity.
Cleanse wisely
That $4 shampoo-conditioner combo might seem fine, but fighting humidity in the Lowcountry requires some investment. Katherine Redd, store manager and salon specialist at Stella Nova, recommends Oribe shampoo ($38) and conditioner ($39) for moisture control. The amber extract provides antioxidants and protects hair from environmental stress.
Indulge
Moroccanoil, which uses oil from the argan tree’s fruit as its main ingredient, offers a number of products to beat the frizzies. The original Moroccanoil Treatment ($16.60) is the best option for new users. Just apply a small dab of oil to your clean, damp hair to tame stray fly-aways. “It’s great to put on before you go to the beach," says Whispers on Wentworth hair stylist Jessica Barker. "It keeps your hair from getting dried out by the salt water.”
Grab your raincoat
No, not your turquoise North Face. Redd compares Oribe’s Imperméable Anti-humidity Spray ($19.50) to putting on your raincoat. “It’s the last step before you head out the door. It seals everything and keeps the moisture out,” she explains.
